Trust

It is commonly accepted that trust is instrumental in the success of the relationship with your horse. Trust is built over time.  It comes from series of events where your horse is asked to follow you, and learns that when he does, he is safe. However, just like in a human relationship, though it takes years to build, it can only take one mistake to lose. Particularly in the early stages of your relationship with your horse, be mindful to never lead him into a situation that damages that newborn trust. Regaining it can be a long and bruising process.
